Celebrating Juneteenth Through Culture, History, and Community
Join us for an exciting and educational youth field trip as we celebrate Juneteenth through cultural experiences, historical learning, and community engagement. Participants will explore the significance of Juneteenth while enjoying interactive activities, historical tours, music, art, and cultural traditions.

Meeting Location: Hobson Lodge
Departure Time: 8:00 AM
Transportation: MUI #24 Bus
Driver: Brother McDaniel

Youth Engagement Activities (On the Bus)
To encourage socialization, teamwork, and learning, participants will take part in:
Introductions & Ball Toss
A fun icebreaker that allows youth to learn each other's names and discover interesting facts about one another.
Telephone Game
An interactive activity demonstrating the importance of communication, active listening, and how misunderstandings can occur when messages are not clearly shared.
Juneteenth Reflection Forum
A guided discussion focused on the history and significance of Juneteenth and why it remains important today.
Morning Cultural Experience
Newport News Community Garden

Participants will attend The Liberation of the Harvest Celebration, featuring:

Learning and participating in the traditional KuKu Dance

Introduction to Shekeres (African musical rattles)

Cultural education and community engagement

Hands-on celebration of African heritage and traditions
Fort Monroe Juneteenth Heritage Celebration
Lunch

Participants will depart for Richmond following the afternoon activities.
